BURLINGTON, N.J. (AP) _ Burlington Stores Inc. (BURL) on Tuesday reported fiscal third-quarter profit of $96.5 million.

The Burlington, New Jersey-based company said it had net income of $1.44 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $1.55 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.41 per share.

The discount retailer posted revenue of $1.78 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $1.77 billion, falling short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.79 billion.

For the current quarter ending in January, Burlington Stores expects its per-share earnings to range from $3.12 to $3.17.

The company expects full-year earnings in the range of $7.28 to $7.33 per share.

Burlington Stores shares have climbed 28% since the beginning of the year. The stock has climbed 40% in the last 12 months.
