Subaru Corp. will invest 30 billion yen ($275 million) to renew and expand its research facility north of Tokyo to strengthen its development of driver-assist and autonomous driving technology, a company source said Friday.

The facility is due to be completed in Ota, Gunma Prefecture in 2024, and Subaru is considering increasing the number of engineers at the site from the current 3,000 in line with the facility expansion, the source said.

The company has also acquired a 59,000 square meter piece of land adjacent to the factory to build a test track, according to the source.
