Eni SpA said Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with its chemicals subsidiary Versalis SpA and the Italian National Consortium for the Collection, Recycling and Recovery of Plastic Packaging for the recovery of plastic packaging waste.

The Italian energy company said the collaboration will be focused on the so-called plasmix, which are mixed post-consumer plastics that are not suitable for mechanical recycling.

"The partners will pool their respective expertise in the fields of gasification and chemical recycling by means of pyrolysis," Eni said.

Pyrolysis consists of the thermal decomposition of materials at elevated temperatures in the absence of oxygen.
