THOMASVILLE, N.C. (AP) _ Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. (ODFL) on Thursday reported second-quarter profit of $147.8 million.

The Thomasville, North Carolina-based company said it had net income of $1.25 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.03 per share.

The trucking company posted revenue of $896.2 million in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $894.9 million.

Old Dominion shares have risen 44% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 66% in the last 12 months.
