Williams-Sonoma shares soared after the San Francisco high-end home-goods store posted quarterly earnings ahead of Wall Street targets.

Vera Bradley shares slid after the maker of handbags and accessories posted weaker-than-expected fiscal fourth-quarter earnings as it continues to work on a turnaround.

Nature's Sunshine Products shares rose to hit a new 52-week high after the maker of herbal and nutritional products posted improved quarterly results and forecast continued sales growth.

Dollar Tree, which operates roughly 16,700 locations including the Family Dollar chain, said it would close nearly 1,000 Family Dollar stores over the next few years as it battles merger indigestion, inflation and store theft.
