3M has recalled its Peltor X4 Series Earmuffs due to cracks in parts of the product's cups that create the risk of overexposure to loud noises and sounds.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday that the recall affects about 40,000 units, along with about 6,700 units sold in Canada. The recalled units are black noise-reducing earmuffs witheither green or orange accents.

Only earmuffs manufactured between March 2020 and September 2022 are included in the recall. Consumers can see the date of manufacture on the outside of the earmuff's ear cups.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled earmuffs and contact 3M to receive a free replacement unit, which includes free shipping.

No injuries or incidents have been reported as a result of the defect.
