For the second consecutive year, ISA CTEEP is recognized with Gold Seal in greenhouse gases emissions inventory, in Brazilian GHG Protocol Program
São Paulo, September 24, 2021 - For the second consecutive year, ISA CTEEP, the largest private energy transmission company in the country, is recognized with the Gold Seal in its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, in Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, referring to the disclosure of emissions in base year 2020.
The recognition is granted to companies that meet all transparency criteria in the disclosure of their data on emissions and submit them for checking by an independent institution.
Since 2017, the company voluntarily publishes its inventory in the Public Registry of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (RPE), theonline platform of GHG Protocol. "The electricity sector is at the center of the energy transition towards the planet's decarbonization. ISA CTEEP aims to reduce 2 million tons of CO2 in the world, by 2030, through the reduction of negative impacts of greenhouse gases in our operations and the development of measures with a positive impact on the sector and on society as a whole", says Ana Carolina David, ISA CTEEP's Communication and Sustainability manager.
In 2020, the company emitted approximately 18 thousand tons of CO2e (Scope 1 - direct emissions); 211.72 tCO2e with the purchase of electricity and more than 417 thousand tCO2e related to losses in the transmission system (both Scope 2). In 2020, through specific maintenance actions, in addition to improving the techniques applied in the annual asset maintenance plan, the company reduced the emission of SF6, a gas impacting the greenhouse effect, but key for the electrical sector due to its isolation properties. In addition, up to November this year, the transmission company expects to adopt, in armored substations, a machine to dehumidify the SF6 chambers, avoiding any risk of leakage and emission of greenhouse gases.
This year, the company also started a pilot project to replace the 227 light vehicles in the company's administrative fleet with electric cars, used for transporting employees on service that, by voluntary commitment, were already using only biofuels.
Initiatives for generating positive impact
In addition to the goal of reducing emissions in its operations, the company has the Jaguar Connection, its main sustainability program which, in Brazil, works to preserve more than 76 thousand hectares in Serra do Amolar region, in Pantanal, in partnership with the Instituto Homem Pantaneiro (IHP). In 2020, the project was recognized as the best corporate program for offsetting emissions by the Environmental Finance Awards ranking.
