Eni last night welcomed the decision by the UK government's Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) to grant a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the HyNet North West CO2 pipeline.

This decision will enable the construction, operation and maintenance of the infrastructure for transporting CO2 captured as part of the HyNet CSC cluster, where Eni is the transport and storage operator.

This decision by the authorities brings to an end a determination process that stretched over 18 months after Eni submitted its DCO bid in October 2022.

Ultimately, the HyNet CO2 pipeline will transport carbon dioxide from capture plants in north-west England and north Wales via new and upgraded infrastructure to safe, permanent storage in Eni's depleted natural gas reservoirs beneath the seabed of Liverpool Bay.
