FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - Passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport picked up again in April. The airport operator Fraport counted around 5.1 million passengers, compared with a good 4.8 million a year earlier, according to a presentation by the Executive Board on the quarterly figures published on Tuesday. However, this is still around 16 percent less than before the coronavirus pandemic in April 2019. In January, the shortfall compared to 2019 was only 13 percent - in December it was only 6 percent.

In the first quarter, strikes at Lufthansa and at airport passenger checkpoints slowed down the trend. Many flights were also canceled at times due to snow and ice. For the current year, Fraport CEO Stefan Schulte in Frankfurt continues to expect 61 to 65 million passengers./stw/mne/men
