The Grupa Azoty Group expands product portfolio to include ISCC certified polyamide 6. The Company has introduced a new product to its first customer in the European automotive sector

The Grupa Azoty Group is advancing its portfolio of certified plastics, all linked to certified raw materials, using the mass balance approach. The fourth quarter of 2023 saw the Company commence the production and successfully complete the inaugural sale of certified polyamide 6 under the ISCC PLUS scheme. This voluntary scheme is dedicated to promoting bioeconomy and circularity across various sectors of the industry, including plastics. The move towards a portfolio of certified products has been facilitated by the ISCC PLUS certification, which the Company obtained in 2022. These efforts address the challenges identified in the Grupa Azoty Group's Green Strategy.

The ISCC PLUS certification ensures the traceability of certified materials throughout the entire supply chain via different chain of custody options, including the mass balance approach. This is because deliveries of any ISCC PLUS-certified materials must invariably be accompanied by a Sustainability Declaration, which includes detailed information on the certified feedstocks used. Grupa Azoty S.A. thus ensures traceability within the supply chain and enables third-party auditors to monitor the inflow and outflow of materials.

"One of our key goals in the Plastics segment is the development of certified products portfolio and their sale. In the fourth quarter of 2023, Grupa Azoty completed its first sale of a new certified product to a customer in the European automotive sector. Currently, we are seeing other indications of a growing interest in products where biomass, recycled materials, or a mix of both is allocated in the production process. The demand for certified plastics is expected to increase rapidly, bolstering the Grupa Azoty Group's position within this segment. As a producer of polyamide 6, our aim is to increasingly leverage certified materials, thereby contributing more significantly to the development of the bioeconomy and the circular economy," says Marcin Witkowski, PhD, ESG Corporate Director of Grupa Azoty S.A.

The ISCC PLUS system, which Grupa Azoty S.A. implemented in the fourth quarter of 2022 and was successfully recertified for a year later, enables the Company also to manufacture and market certified products other than polyamide 6, such as caprolactam and cyclohexanone. This is achieved through the mass balance approach, which, based on verifiable bookkeeping, attributes an amount of bio-circular, circular, biomass-derived, or other certified feedstocks that are an alternative to fossil raw materials to particular products. This approach also ensures supply chain traceability.
