Paris, 2 September 2015

INNOVEOX (Alternext, FR0011066885 – ALIOX), specialist provider of solutions for the definitive treatment and recovery of toxic industrial waste, continues to make new technological strides and has announced the filing of a new patent for the cold inertization* of asbestos by its subsidiary Syneox, which specializes in automated and robotic systems for hostile environments.

As an established expert in the recycling of industrial liquid effluents, the new patent will enable Innoveox to extend its offer of solutions for the treatment and recycling of hazardous solid waste and make inroads into a new market.

Asbestos: a market estimated at one billion euros a year for the next 10 years in France (source: NUDEC 2015)

As they can be transported and are totally secure, the small units (40-feet containers) developed mean asbestos can be rendered inert directly on construction sites or in the areas to be treated for a period of between 1,000 to 2,000 years, depending on the encapsulation chosen (100 to 300 years for concrete) and local legislation.

The units will not be sold, but marketed as part of a services offer, with Syneox managing all aspects of automation and the sale of consumables (specific Syneox ceramics).

The bricks resulting from this low-temperature ceramic dual encapsulation will be perfectly traceable and labelled for life. Materials may also be re-used subject to official authorization.

In terms of biological and physicochemical lifecycle and resistance, the treatment delivers similar results to the vitrification of asbestos by plasma torch, but is far less costly. Simple to implement and efficient and secure, it is also capable of absorbing the major volumes linked to a global market that is still in production. It is a genuine alternative to the two current solutions which are landfill and vitrification. Lastly, because it is emission-free, inertization has no impact on the environment and has an excellent carbon footprint.

Innoveox, winner of the PEXE 2015 Trophy for innovative eco-enterprises (waste and circular economy category), has the commercial backing of engineering firm NUDEC (subsidiary of the BURGEAP Group) which specializes in asbestos removal. Chairman and CEO, Benjamin Torchio, said: “This innovation represents a genuine alternative on a global market looking for sustainable and competitive solutions. The government asbestos circular of 15 May 2013 illustrates the major extent of contaminated road surfaces and today's contractors are looking for innovative solutions.

Jean-Christophe Lépine said: “I am delighted with the extremely positive and rapid results of the innovative work by Innoveox and Syneox in Aquitaine. The resulting new job creation in France will be announced in the near future.”
Innoveox and Syneox wish to pursue their development using a functional economy approach by offering environmentally-friendly integrated solutions geared towards the provision of a service rather the basic sale of units.

Beyond the highly carcinogenic waste that is asbestos, research into other markets is already underway, notably the inertization of ashes produced by incinerators or power plants (lignite) which pose a major health risk.

A public presentation of the unit will soon be given by its designer, Christian Delavaud, Head of Innovation at SYNEOX who has recently joined the robotics competitiveness cluster, Aquitaine Robotics.

About Innoveox
Innoveox develops industry-specific turnkey technological solutions for the treatment, recovery and reuse of hazardous waste using Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO) for positive energy production. It is the worldwide owner of this patented technology developed by France's National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) which is a shareholder in the company. In 2012, Innoveox signed a technological and commercial structured partnership with Air Liquide. Its industrial waste unit with a treatment capacity of 1,000 tons/year is in operation at the Arthez de Bearn site. Innoveox has also signed two 5-year service contracts in Reunion Island and New Caledonia, as well as an exclusive representation contract in China. The company is listed on Alternext.
