TORONTO - Manulife Investment Management announced today that it has been awarded BOMA© (Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada) Best Platinum for Manulife Place in downtown Edmonton.

The BOMA Best certification recognizes excellence in energy and environmental management and performance in existing buildings. The program provides commercial real estate owners and managers with a framework of best practices to achieve and improve their sustainable performance. Of the five levels of certification, Platinum status is awarded to buildings that have achieved 90 to 100 percent on their assessment of best practices. Manulife Place is the fourth building in Edmonton to hold a Platinum level certification.

'This achievement is a testament to the dedication that our property management and operations teams at Manulife Place practice every day,' said Steve Smith, Managing Director, Real Estate Asset Management at Manulife Investment Management. 'Manulife Place is an important part of downtown Edmonton. We are happy to be part of the community and we are proud of our commitment to keep this part of town vibrant and relevant.'

In addition to BOMA Best Platinum, Manulife Place was the first in Edmonton to receive the Wired Gold certification for its best-in-class building connectivity. It also recently received its LEED® EB Gold recertification, demonstrating a significant and ongoing focus on excellence in real estate sustainability.

'Our vision is to drive leadership in sustainable real estate across our global organization,' said Regan Smith, Head of Real Estate Sustainability at Manulife Investment Management. 'To date, over 80% of our global portfolio carries a green building certification and we look forward to maintaining this momentum.'
