SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The McClatchy Company (NYSE: MNI) announced today that management received a deposit of $6 million from the buyer of 10 acres of land adjacent to The Miami Herald to extend the deadline to close the sale to Jan. 31, 2011.

Notwithstanding the extension of the contract, the company noted that given the challenging credit markets and the decline in the commercial real estate market in Miami, it will evaluate the value of this land on its balance sheet. The results of that evaluation will be disclosed in the company's fourth quarter earnings release, which is anticipated to be on Jan. 27, 2010.
