• All five German plants are certified to the international standard ISO 50001
  • Wood-based panels Group sets standards for sustainable management

Düsseldorf/Neumarkt, 4th of June 2013 - The Pfleiderer Group sets sustainable management standards. The wood-based panel manufacturer has received EN ISO 50001 certification from TÜV Süd for all five German production locations. The auditors confirmed that Pfleiderer has an efficient energy management system in its plants in Neumarkt, Gütersloh, Baruth, Arnsberg and Leutkirch and therefore in the whole of its Western Europe Business Centre (BC West). The two-stage auditing process, preparations for which began 12 months ago, was successfully completed in May this year.

EN ISO 50001 is the current global standard for energy management systems and has been in force since 2011. The systematic recording and assessment of the type of energy used, the energy quantities and energy efficiency ensures that emissions can be reduced, resources spared and costs lowered.

Michael Wolff, management spokesperson of Pfleiderer GmbH: "As an ecologically sustainable company, continuous improvement of our energy efficiency and avoiding energy wastefulness are very close to our heart. Energy management is therefore an important of Pfleiderer's integrated management system. Successful certification of all our plants in Germany to ISO 50001 shows that we not only make this claim but also follow it up with real action.

"Recording and assessing energy efficiency is a very complex process, due to the abundance of data to be collected, says Bernhard Schmidtner, Head of Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental Protection of the Pfleiderer Group's BC West. "As the preparations last year had to be carried out at the same time as the strategic reorientation of BC West, certification was a particularly huge feat for all concerned. Making us even more satisfied with the result.
