River and Mercantile appointed ex-Aviva sustainable real assets manager Roger Lewis to the newly created role of group head of ESG. Lewis most recently worked for around a year at sustainability consultancy Carbon Intelligence, prior to which he worked at Aviva overseeing ESG strategy across the asset manager’s £47.3 billion real assets platform. In his new role, he will be responsible for implementing ESG factors in all of R&M’s investment divisions and coordinating these with the firm’s corporate responsibilities. His appointment follows that of the founder of Aviva’s infrastructure business Ian Berry last month to set up R&M’s infrastructure business and roll out a range of strategies, including an Infrastructure Equity Income fund incorporating ESG factors.
