THE PRIME Minister warned commuters they would have to "stay the course" this summer amid growing industrial unrest.

There remains little hope of further rail strikes scheduled for tomorrow and Saturday being postponed, with talks all but nonexistent between rail companies and the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT).

The strike is causing "significant disruption and inconvenience up and down the country", the Prime Minister said.

Clive Watson, the boss of the 42- strong City Pub Group, told the PA News Agency it was "barely worth opening" sites near train stations amid the ongoing unrest.

RMT boss Mick Lynch said yesterday that the transport secretary Grant Shapps was "spouting nonsense" with plans to replace striking workers with agency staff, a move that will require new legislation and will prove contentious - upending almost fifty years of union legislation.

Rail and tube disruption is expected to continue this morning, due to services being in the wrong place. Many rail services will finish early today, as operators ready for another day of unrest.
