May 8 (Reuters) - Peter Bosch, production chief at Bentley, will become chief executive of Volkswagen's software unit Cariad from June 1, taking over from Dirk Hilgenberg, Volkswagen said on Monday, confirming an earlier Reuters report.

Bosch will also assume responsibility for finance, purchasing and IT.

Two further software experts will join the board alongside Bosch, the statement said, without providing names. Rainer Zugehoer will remain as chief people officer, in charge of human resources.

The changes come as Volkswagen undergoes a strategic review of Cariad, which Chief Executive Oliver Blume said in the statement involves "stepping up the pace and broadening our approach to partnerships."

The company was in talks with Hilgenberg and his team about new roles within the Volkswagen Group, Blume said. (Reporting by Miranda Murray, Victoria Waldersee, Editing by Friederike Heine)
