Passengers at its Rome airports rose 3.9 percent in the period, while those in Nice's were up 5.5 percent. Traffic was more subdued at motorways, up 0.6 percent across the group's Italian network.

Atlantia, which jointly took over Abertis with Spanish builder ACS and Germany's Hochtief in April, said it paid 21 million euros (£18.7 million) in financial costs for the deal.

Core profits in the period were barely unchanged at 1.74 billion euros.
