Adidas AG said Thursday that roughly two-thirds of its stores globally have reopened, while activity in Greater China--the company's main market--has returned to growth in May.

Although store traffic in May remained lower than during the previous year in China, all stores have reopened since mid-April and revenue growth was positive again last month in the country, the German sportswear maker said. Adidas now expects second-quarter sales in China to be roughly at the prior year-level, it said.

"The traffic shortfall was more than offset by an increase in conversion rates and the exceptional growth in the company's e-commerce business," Adidas said, adding that, "as a result, overall revenue growth in Greater China turned positive for the month of May."

Adidas has reopened almost all its stores in Asia-Pacific and emerging markets, while three-quarters of its own stores operate in Europe, but mainly at reduced hours.

"While around half of the stores in Russia/CIS have also resumed operations, the opening rates in North America and Latin America are still significantly below 50%," it said.
