Eagles

By Bushrah Yusuf-Badmus Ilorin, Feb. 12, 2019 (NAN) The Flying Eagles Coach, Paul Aigbogun, has said that the team would play its remaining matches in the ongoing 2019 U-20 AFCON in a more focused approach.

Aigbogun said on Tuesday that having achieved the first target of a FIFA World Cup ticket, his boys were now relaxed to go in and give their best.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Flying Eagles will tackle the Junior Eagles of Mali for a ticket in the final of the ongoing AFCON in Niger at the Stade General Seyni Kountche on Wednesday.

“We set the World Cup ticket as our first target for the championship, and we have that now.

“So, we are relaxed to go in there and give our best for the second target of winning the trophy, while playing without tension or stiffness,’’ Aigbogun said in a statement by Ademola Olajire, the Media Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

NAN also reports that the Flying Eagles won Group A with seven points, the team was grouped alongside host nation, Niger Republic, South Africa and Burundi.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved a request by NFF for the Flying Eagles to wear black armbands in their match against Mali in honour of Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, a former Secretary-General of the football governing body.

Ogunjobi, also the Chairman of Osun State Football Association, passed away on Monday morning at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan after a brief illness.

“We have received the go-ahead from CAF that the Flying Eagles can use the black armbands.

“It is the least honour that we can accord such an accomplished man who was a football person through and through,” the statement quoted Bola Oyeyode, NFF’s Director of Competitions as saying. (NAN) BAY/ERO/PDE ========== (Edited by Emmanuel Okara/Peter Ejiofor)
