FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines congratulates its largest hub, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), on being named Airport of the Year today by Air Transport World (ATW), the leading monthly magazine for the global airline industry. The airport joined an impressive list of past winners around the world to receive the honor.

In recognizing DFW, ATW noted the airport's continued record growth and traveler enhancements that include modernized facilities, updated amenities, added concessions and the opening of the largest duty-free store in the Western hemisphere.

As the 12th largest airport in the world and the fourth largest in the United States, DFW welcomed 69 million customers in 2018. American Airlines customers account for more than 85 percent of that traffic. The airport is also a major connecting hub for American and its oneworld® partners, particularly for routes to Latin America, Asia and Europe.

This year, DFW expects more than 72 million customers to travel through the airport, thanks in part to American's plans to add more domestic and international routes and grow its summer schedule at the hub to more than 900 daily departures.

'We are proud of the work that DFW continues to do to elevate one of the most frequently visited super hubs in the world,' said Cedric Rockamore, Vice President of Hub Operations at DFW for American. 'DFW Airport has been a longtime partner to American, and we are committed to working collaboratively to provide our customers with a premier travel experience for years to come.'

DFW Airport will officially receive the award March 26 at ATW's 45th Annual Airline Industry Achievement Awards gala in New York.
