Hundreds of supporters - including more than 20 American Airlines volunteers from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) - walked for a cure in the annual St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer in Los Angeles. Every year, supporters from across the nation participate in walk and run events to raise money in support of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's efforts to research cutting-edge treatments for battling childhood cancer.

For LAX team member Emily Trujillo, the walk was an opportunity to support her Los Angeles friends and neighbors. She walked together with seven of her family members, including her 95-year-old grandmother, proving age is not an obstacle when giving back.

'It's important for my family and I to support this cause.' Trujillo said. 'Cancer touches everyone. Even if we aren't directly affected by cancer, we want to support those in our community that need it most. Especially the children.'

Prior to the start of the walk/run, volunteers listened to survivors as they told their inspiring stories. It was a morning to honor and celebrate their battles, help raise awareness for cancer research and bring hope to cancer patients everywhere.

American has been a proud supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital since 2006 and a national series sponsor for St. Jude Walk/Run events for the past four years. Money raised from events go toward lifesaving research and treatments for patients and their families, who never receive a bill from St. Jude. This also includes travel, housing and food. The treatments developed as a result of donations to St. Jude have helped advance the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80%.

'I'm proud to be an employee of American because they care for our community and want to help people in this fight against cancer,' Trujillo said. 'Everyone should volunteer because it gives you an opportunity to make new friends, and make a difference for those who are really in need.'
