American Electric Power Co. Inc. (AEP) on Tuesday said it aims to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 70% from the 2,000 parts per million level by 2030, a step up from its previous target of a 60% reduction.
The Columbus, Ohio, energy-infrastructure company said it aims to cut more than 80% of emissions by 2050. The company said it has cut emissions by 59% since 2000.
To achieve that, the company said it plans to add more than 8,600 megawatts of wind and solar generations to regulated utility customers by 2030. It said it is seeking approval to add 1,485 megawatts of wind generation in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.
