NORRISTOW, Pa. (September 24, 2018) - Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of construction projects to replace aging water main in Norristown, East Norriton Township, West Norriton Township and Lower Providence Township to improve service reliability and prevent water outages. The combined cost of the projects is approximately $1.4 million and will replace outdated pipe dating as far back as the 1890s.

Starting this week, the company will install nearly 1,100 feet along North Trooper Road between Chestnut Avenue and Amy Drive, spanning the Lower Providence Township and West Norriton Township boundary line. Crews expect to complete the new main installation, testing and disinfection, and connecting customers' service lines to the new main by early October, weather permitting.

Next in East Norriton Township, crews will replace approximately 800 feet of aging pipe along 3rd Avenue between West Johnson Highway and Hancock Avenue. The company expects to complete this project, including connecting customers' service lines to the new main, by late October, weather permitting.

In Norristown starting in late October, the company will replace nearly 4,400 feet of aging water main along Stanbridge Street between West Elm Street and the Stanbridge Street entrance to Norristown Farm Park. Crews expect to complete the new main installation, testing and disinfection, and connecting customers' service lines to the new main by early January, weather permitting.

Final street paving restoration for all of the projects is scheduled for next spring.

Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction, and motorists are urged to give themselves extra time and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone.
