  • •Video includes genuine Kabuki actors in costumes from a popular play.

TOKYO, Nov. 16, 2018 -All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan's largest and 5-star airline for six consecutive years, is releasing a new in-flight safety video with a Kabuki theme. The video will be shown on domestic flights starting Dec. 1, 2018 and international flights from Jan. 1, 2019, with subtitles available in 17 languages customized to each route. This is the first new ANA in-flight safety video since 2015.

ANA prioritizes passenger safety and sought to present the safety information in an engaging manner that also provides unique insight into Japanese culture. Kabuki theater is a traditional form of Japanese theater with deep roots dating back to the Edo Period. Kabuki theater continues to build on its storied past and was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2008. The Kabuki-themed in-flight safety video will show safety procedures in an entertaining way using real Kabuki actors from the celebrated play Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami (Sugawara and the Secrets of Calligraphy).

'Japanese culture is important to us here at ANA, and we are very proud to be able to bring our unique traditions to new audiences in a way that is both educational and entertaining, with the primary aim to let our passengers pay close attention to the safety features,' said Yutaka Ito, Executive Vice President of ANA. 'As an official partner of Tokyo's famous Kabukiza theater, ANA has the opportunity to showcase a classic play using the real costumes and characters incorporated into our safety video.'

There are three versions of the in-flight video featuring different cabin attendants and musical accompaniment with an additional 'behind the scenes' video depicting how the safety video was made. This bonus video will play at the end of the flight while passengers are waiting to deplane.
