Let's all take a moment here to remember the cobbler, which appears to have fallen from grace for the dessert of choice on Thanksgiving Day, according to technology company, Taboola, which recently crunched the numbers on the most popular Turkey Day desserts and cobbler came in dead last, right after chess pie.

For restaurants this week equivocating about which desserts to feature in the run-up to Thanksgiving — as well as the day of, if you're open — you'll likely not be surprised that the good old spicy squash-laden pumpkin pie still won out as the top dessert of choice this Thanksgiving, but according to Taboola, just barely. Here is a table the company shared with this website, showing the top and bottom choices in and around Thursday.

The company looked at the data of more than 15 million U.S. online readers who spent more than 285 million minutes reading about Thanksgiving foods (Yes, we are a little obsessed, okay?). The choice between apple pie and pumpkin was razor-thin in many states, and some — Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Virginia and North Carolina — weren't settling for squash pie when they could have apple, making it those state's top choice.

And in Alabama, they wanted little to do with pumpkin at all, choosing sweet potato pie as the top choice, apple as second and pecan as third.

But one sure bet is that many Americans — whether dining at a restaurant, at home or at someone else's home — will be putting down way more food than they need on Thursday. Industry data shows on average, Americans will consume more than 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving. Let the belt-loosening begin.
