Tokyo stocks slightly rose Friday with major semiconductor and other technology issues lifted, tracking overnight gains in their U.S. counterparts on data suggesting favorable sales of Apple Inc.'s iPhones in China.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 36.22 points, or 0.15 percent, from Thursday to 23,776.09. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 2.32 points, or 0.13 percent, at 1,731.37.

Gainers were led by machinery, pulp and paper, and pharmaceutical issues.
