ANNOUNCEMENT INSIDE INFORMATION ASIASAT 9 SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH

This announcement is made by Asia Satellite Telecommunications Holdings Limited (the "Company", and together with its subsidiaries, the "Group") pursuant to Rule 13.09(2) of the Rules Governing the Listing of Securities on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (the "Listing Rules") and the Inside Information Provisions (as defined in the Listing Rules) under Part XIVA of the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Chapter 571 of the Laws of Hong Kong).

References are made to the announcements of the Company dated 22 June 2012 and 16 December 2013 (together, the "Previous Announcements") in relation to, among other things, (i) the launch services for AsiaSat 9 by ILS International Launch Services, Inc. (ILS) pursuant to the ILS Launch Contract, and (ii) the construction of AsiaSat 9 by Space Systems/Loral, LLC (SSL) pursuant to the Construction Agreement, respectively. Unless otherwise defined, the terms used in this announcement shall have the same meanings as the terms defined in the Previous Announcements.

The Company is pleased to announce AsiaSat 9's successful launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on 29 September 2017 at 2:52 a.m. Hong Kong time. Asia Satellite Telecommunications Company Limited ("AsiaSat"), an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company, has acquired the first signals from AsiaSat 9 in Hong Kong

approximately 7 hours and 54 minutes after the launch. Approximately 9 hours and 13 minutes after the launch, AsiaSat 9 successfully separated from the upper stage of the Launch Vehicle. Over the next few days, AsiaSat 9 will move to its operational position, approximately 36,000 kilometers above the equator where it will undergo in-orbit testing before coming into commercial use.

AsiaSat 9 is constructed by SSL, with an operational life over 15 years and is to replace AsiaSat 4 at orbital location of 122 degrees East with multiple C, Ku and Ka-band payloads, and provides coverage over the Asia-Pacific region.
