AT&T ESInet Boosts 911 Reliability and Enhances Emergency Communications

The Capital Area Emergency Communications District (CAECD) in Austin is transforming its 911 communications with AT&T * ESInet™. CAECD covers 10 counties in Central Texas and is the first in the state to adopt the NextGen 911 system. Call takers will be equipped with enhanced tools to provide a more reliable and improved 911 experience.

AT&T ESInet brings a smarter way to deliver 911 calls. Built on AT&T's industry-leading network, the IP-based call routing service uses i3 standards from the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) to modernize decades-old 911 infrastructure. And in today's mobile environment, that's crucial.

'CAECD continues to be an innovation center in Texas. They have often been at the forefront of adopting innovative technology to meet their challenges,' said Chris Roy, vice president, AT&T Public Safety. 'And that's visible now - as they take advantage of the advances in information and communications technology within AT&T ESInet to provide citizens with a service that is efficient and based on high standards.'

With AT&T ESInet, CAECD can:

  • Provide more targeted response to help save time and improve outcomes. AT&T ESInet lets public safety answering points (PSAPs) manage how calls and text messages are routed to help ensure they reach the desired 911 agency. With location-based geospatial routing, PSAPs can quickly adjust their service boundaries to accommodate unforeseen situations.
  • Handle unexpected call volumes. When calls spike, AT&T ESInet can automatically distribute calls to neighboring PSAPs. This can mean improved 911 call management for CAECD. In the future, this will make it easier for PSAPs to be more responsive to emergencies.
  • Maintain service during a natural or man-made disaster. CAECD will have access to call processing locations distributed throughout the country for backup support as needed.
  • Improve incident awareness. In the future, CAECD PSAPs will be able to support pictures and videos sent via text message.

AT&T is a leader in first responder connectivity. We've been enabling and innovating public safety communications for nearly 140 years to help first responders focus on what matters most: protecting communities and saving lives.
