ATENOR ANNOUNCES THE SELECTION OF THE ARCHITECTS FIRM FOR PHASE 3 OF CITY DOX

Ideally located at the gateway to the city and alongside the Canal, the development of the new CITY DOX district spreads over almost 5 ha. This new multi-generational complex should have around 155,000 m² of new buildings, including over 900 homes, a secondary school, a rest home, an assisted-living residence, shops, integrated business services and a number of production workshops.

On 4 April 2019, ATENOR, together with the Master-Architect of Brussels-Capital Region, launched a competition for the development of the upcoming phases of CITY DOX. With a concern for architectural quality and diversity, ATENOR wanted to receive a vision statement from an architect or a group of architects firms for the phased development of three housing blocks built alongside the Canal.

Six architects firms were selected to submit a bid. The projects were presented by the participating teams before a jury gathered on the City Dox site. The jury, presided by Kristian Borret, the Master-Architect of Brussels-Capital Region and formed of representatives of ATENOR, of the Brussels-Capital Region, of Anderlecht Municipal Council and Brussels Environment, was impressed by the quality of the projects presented, confirming the value of launching such a competition. The XDGA office project was preferred over the projects of the other five candidates (DXA + Art & Build, MDW + Central + Buur, HUB + ELD, B2Ai + Dhooge & Meeganck + MSA + 3E, CF Moller + Brut).

The advisory committee appreciated the originality of the bid selected and the extensive understanding of the context. The approach proposed reconciles the technical needs and urban planning constraints. The challenge was to harmonise the productive and residential uses. Challenge met: the project develops an unexpected and groundbreaking concept by placing the car park on the 1st floor of the base. This original proposal is going to enable the different functions to be structured by creating a buffer zone between the productive and residential activities. The project stands out also due to the quality and flexibility of the ground floor spaces and the development of a set of three types of façade.

Confident in this district's potential, ATENOR intends to make the CITY DOX district a forerunner in which everything possible has been done to facilitate social exchange and harmony and enhance quality of life: soft mobility, shared cars, smart waste management, playground, community gardens and public park.
