Malaysia-based Axiata Group Bhd. confirmed that it is a short-listed bidder for Myanmar's Irrawaddy Green Towers.

"All we can say is we are one of the shortlisted bidders," said Mohd Izzaddin Idris, Axiata's deputy chief executive, at a Kuala Lumpur press conference on Thursday.

"This is in line with our trajectory for edotco Group Sdn. Bhd. to grow from its current base of over 20,000 towers to 50,000 towers, and there are many opportunities in the region, not just Myanmar; we are looking at other opportunities as well," he said.

Edotco is Axiata's telecommunications tower arm.

Local press in Myanamr reported that short-listed bidders for Irrawaddy Green Towers include Axiata, China-based Guodong Group and global private equity firm CVC Capital Partners.
