Balfour Beatty was praised at the Team Heathrow Health and Safety awards ceremony last week, as it secured two prestigious awards, the 'Passenger Health and Safety award' and the 'Samantha Christie Award for Exemplary Individual'.

Balfour Beatty was recognised for its innovative approach to reducing passenger interface while upgrading decaying glazing modules within the roof light system at Terminal 4 while Paul Staples, Senior Site Manager for Balfour Beatty's Terminal 4 project at Heathrow, was commended for his commitment to improving health, safety and wellbeing and implementing best practice.

In addition, Balfour Beatty was named runner up in the 'Innovation Excellence' category for its remote-controlled inspection vehicle which enables operatives to conduct site and environmental inspections remotely.

Steve O'Sullivan, UK Head of Aviation at Balfour Beatty, said: 'This is a fantastic achievement and I am delighted that we have been commended for our proactive approach to health, safety and wellbeing.

'These awards not only recognise our commitment to embedding new practices across our business but also to our people who work tirelessly to provide an exemplary service for our customers and the travelling public alike.'

Balfour Beatty was appointed to the Heathrow Airport Limited Delivery Integrator Framework in 2014 and is responsible for delivering individual projects valued between £500,000 and £70 million. Additionally, the company was awarded a £170 million contract in 2016 to upgrade baggage screening and handling systems at the Airport.
