National golfer Shabbir Iqbal maintained his lead with 138 gross on second round of Bank Al Habib's 7th Rashid D Habib Memorial National Professional Golf Championship being played at Karachi Golf.
M Munir of Islamabad is following Shabbir with his gross 140 and he did 4 under par Friday. Moazzam Siddique of DHA alongside Amjad Yousuf, Ahmed Saeed (KGC) and Matloob Ahmed of Lahore Garrison golf were joint second with Munir.
Shabbir did only one birdy on first hole and then hit all par. Munir came closer to Shabbir by playing an excellent round of 4 under par. M Zubair of Karachi Golf Club also performed well today with 5 under par. Waheed Baloch of KGC and rank 4 national golfer shot one under par Friday and missed lots of put. He hopes he can have a recovery round on third day to match the leaders.
Today 104 golfers competed in the Rs 6 million prize money golf tournament, in which golfers from across the country are taking part. The course is in excellent condition where the players despite wind were able to attack the pin because of hold on the greens.
This year, the main tournament will be played over 72 holes from 11th to 14th Jan 2018 with cut over final 2 days as per Pakistan Golf Federation's (PGF) rules. The senior national professionals and junior professionals will also be playing in their respective categories concurrently.
As before, appearance money amounting to Rs 500,000 will be distributed among top five golfers. The golfers have two more days to call their lady luck and put a hole-in-one for taking away Bank Al Habib's brand new 1300cc car. The final round will be played on Sunday followed by prize distribution ceremony.
