Beon Energy Solutions is set to begin construction on BayWa r.e.s 112 MW Karadoc solar farm in Mildura, Victoria. Completion of the project is scheduled for late 2018.

Melbourne based renewable energy developer Beon Energy Solutions is preparing to begin construction on another major project in Victorias Sunraysia region. The 112 MW Karadoc solar project is being developed by BayWa r.e., as a part of the German companys rapid expansion in the Australian solar marketplace.

Beon hosted a public forum on Monday to attract some of the around 300 construction and installation workers that will be required to build the project.

BayWa r.e.s commitment to the Karadoc solar farm demonstrates that utility-scale solar farms have a big future in the Mildura region, which will lead to significant short-term and ongoing regional development opportunities while helping to achieve Australias Renewable Energy Target, said Beons General Manager, Glen Thomson, in a statement.

Beon and Baywa r.e. have previously collaborated on the 20 MW Hughenden solar farm in Queensland. Hughenden was Baywa r.e.s first Australian project. It was sold to Lighthouse Infrastructure in July. Baywa r.e. reports that its teams in Melbourne, Bangkok, Munich and Freiburg worked on financing and constructing the project while the sale was being negotiated.

The design, construction, and commissioning of the Karadoc project will be carried out by Beon, the company has announced.

Karadoc is one of the largest solar farms developed by BayWa r.e., and highlights our ability to design and deliver major projects anywhere in the world, said Daniel Gfke, Managing Director of BayWa r.e.s Australian subsidiary. Our relationship with Beon goes from strength-to-strength.

Some 340,000 modules will be deployed at Karadoc. The project will utilize single-axis tracking.

BayWa r.e. reports that it plans to complete 280 MW of large scale solar capacity, across three projects, in Australia by the end of this year.
