The contract has an estimated value of ca. NOK 60 million.

All three feed barges, based on standard barges from Sjøsterk, are sized 17 x 27 meters and with å load capacity of 400 metric tonnes. The concrete barges will be prepared for use on exposed sites that impose extra demands for high reliability, both in regards to operational flexibility, environmental precautions and solid biomass management.

Nordlaks is one of Norway's largest aquaculture groups, with activity along the entire value chain from broodstock and roe to processing and sale of salmon and rainbow trout. The group is headquartered in Stokmarknes with operative business in 12 municipalities in Nordland and Sør-Troms. The contract with Bergen Group Sjøsterk AS has been entered into by Nordlaks Oppdrett AS, which in 2017 had a turnover of almost 2.8 billion and a pre-tax profit of 1.1 billion.

'Nordlaks is in a phase where we renew and modernize the entire value chain. This must be seen in conjunction with both the Havfarm-project and the continuous effort to create an even safer and more sustainable aquaculture industry. Good and adequate equipment is essential for efficient and sustainable operation, among other things, because we can plan with the exchange of our locations and exhibition zones, 'says Tor Anders Elvegård, Director of Nordlaks Oppdrett.

Group CEO Torgeir Nærø in Bergen Group ASA is very pleased with the new contract awarded to the subsidiary Bergen Group Sjøsterk.

'After taking over the production facility and the organization at Stamsneset early July this year, we have been awarded contracts for a total of four barges, and the market interest for concrete barges is evaluated as robust. We recognize the strong focus on solutions that to maintain safe workplaces and efficient operations on very seaworthy and stable concrete structures when used on more exposed sites and under more demanding conditions. We trust that concrete barges represent a reliable, flexible and functional product, a product with lower than benchmark life cycles cost, 'says Nærø.
