How do you keep hundreds of BHP employees and contractors hands clean during a global pandemic?

Well if you're in Newman, you enlist the support of the local chemist.

Owner of Boulevard Pharmacy in Newman, Liz Hyde said she was contacted by BHP through the Local Buying Program for an urgent supply of hand sanitiser this week.

Her team spent an entire day mixing ingredients to make hand sanitiser for BHP's Newman Operations.

'We made a 120 litres in one day,' Liz said.

'It's not something we normally do, but these are strange times.

'Now we are in the process of sourcing another 2000 litres of hand sanitiser from our suppliers to be dispatched to BHP and town over the next few months.

'This isn't just for BHP, we are also prioritising getting hand sanitiser to at risk occupations in town such as the child care centre.'

The sanitiser isn't just for our operations. We have also supplied hand sanitiser to Newman Police, Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa, Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service, EPIS aged care, Western Desert Lands Aboriginal Corporation and child care centres.

Liz said its extremely important companies like BHP continue to support local businesses to keep the town moving and maintain strong relationships with the community and local suppliers.
