Two men, Asogwa Philip, 33, and Alao Dauda, 50, have been arraigned by the police in a Grade One Area Court, Karshi, for allegedly stealing and damaging their employer's vehicle.

The vehicle belonging to C and I Leasing PLC was said to be worth N9.2million.

The prosecution counsel, Barr. Adeyanju Ayotunde, told the court that the first defendant, Asogwa Philip, a resident of Angwakje, Keffi, Nasarawa State, who is an employee at the company, conspired with the second defendant, Alao Dauda, who resides at Madalla, Niger State, to steal the official Toyota Rav4 SUV valued at N9.2million.

Ayotunde said that in the course of driving away the vehicle, the second defendant hit another Toyota Coaster bus and caused huge damage to both vehicles.

The First Information Report read to the defendants also indicated that the total cost of repair of the stolen vehicle is N1,438,000 while cost of the coaster bus which was damaged beyond recognition is N4,200,000.

The defendants were charged on joint act, criminal breach of trust, mischief and theft which is contrary to sections 79, 312, 287 and 327 of the Penal Code Law. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Anas Isa, admitted them to bail in the sum of N8million each with two sureties, one of whom must be a civil servant and the other must be a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and adjourned to March 19, 2020.
