The World Cancer Leaders Summit 2018 aimed to focus attention towards the need to plan and implement national cancer control plans for basic infrastructure development which is needed to effectively treat the increasing number of cancer patients. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health and a number of the ministry's senior officers attended the summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The summit is a high-level policy forum organised by the Union International Cancer Control (UICC) to address the need for countries to further invest in early detection, treatment and care of cancer patients. At the session, the Minister of Health and delegation attended several briefing sessions, interviews and discussions where the leaders shared experiences and exchanged views specifically progress on national cancer control programs including equal treatment and care of cancer patients, importance of cancer surveillance systems as well as involvement of stakeholders. Also in attendance were Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired, President-Elect, UICC; Dr. Princess Nothemba Simelela, WHO Assistant Director-General for Family, Women, Children and Adolecents; Yang Berhormat Dr. Haji Dzulkefly bin Ahmad, Minister of Health Malaysia and Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, Principal Patron of National Cancer Society of Malaysia. The summit carried the theme 'Cancer Treatment for All'.
