CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Cenovus Energy Inc. (CVE) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $85.6 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had net income of 7 cents. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 10 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 8 cents per share.

The oil company posted revenue of $3.67 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported net income of $1.65 billion, or $1.34 per share, swinging to a profit in the period. Revenue was reported as $15.21 billion.

Cenovus shares have dropped 11% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 19% in the last 12 months.
