CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has won two top honours in the 10th Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Awards.

The company was presented with the gold award in the volunteer team category and the silver award in the enterprise category of the programme organised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council, recognising the dedicated volunteer work of employees as well as CLP Power's steadfast commitment to social responsibility and good corporate governance.

The prestigious gold award crowns a milestone year for the CLP Volunteer Team which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2019. Set up in 1994 by a group of frontline employees to provide free rewiring services for underprivileged elderly people, it has blossomed into a team of more than 1,600 current and retired employees, family members, and friends, and is one of the largest corporate volunteer teams in Hong Kong.

The team is dedicated to caring for the community and serving a wide range of beneficiaries to promote social diversity and inclusion. The services provided by the team have become increasingly diverse and far-reaching with the support of an expanding circle of Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) partners.

As well as rewiring services, the CLP Volunteer Team today organises power safety and energy-saving workshops, caring visits, beach clean-up activities, and English tutorial classes, and supports the CLP Hotmeal Canteen service. In 2018, it organised a 'Be Dementia Friendly - Home Visit' programme which CLP volunteers pay regular visits to give support and training to elderly people with early sign of dementia in the Kwun Tong district.

CLP Power Managing Director Mr T K Chiang said: 'CLP Power promotes energy saving and care for people in need through a wide variety of community initiatives, and we would like to give heartfelt thanks to our NGO partners for their stalwart support through the years. CLP volunteers are dedicated to spreading warmth and care to the community.'

The silver award in the enterprise category recognises CLP Power's achievements in corporate governance, environmental protection, customer service, employee policies, and community services. The award reflects the way CLP Power not only delivers a reliable and safe electricity supply but also operates responsibly, minimising its impact on the environment and adopting cleaner fuels for power generation. CLP Power has taken significant steps in recent years to promote the use of renewable energy and the importance of energy saving, encouraging customers to embrace low-carbon lifestyles.

In addition to the work of the CLP Volunteer Team, CLP Power uses its skills, expertise, and resources and works closely with NGOs to organise a broad spectrum of community projects that improve people's quality of life and have a positive and long-lasting impact on the community.

The company's Hotmeal Canteen service, for instance, provides nutritious hot meals at a nominal cost to low-income families, unemployed people, and elderly people in Sham Shui Po, Kwun Tong, and Kwai Tsing. More than 640,000 meals have been served up since the service was launched in 2011.
