Cochlear announces release of Nucleus Smart App for Android smartphone users

Sydney, 22 June 2018 (ASX:COH): Cochlear Limited today announces the release of the Nucleus Smart App for Android™ offering greater connectivity for people with a Nucleus® 7 Sound Processor. Users can now control their hearing with the Nucleus Smart App from a compatible Android device, allowing them to monitor and adjust their settings, view personalised hearing information and locate missing sound processors.

Since the Nucleus 7 Sound Processor was first launched in 2017 as the world's first Made for iPhone cochlear implant sound processor, Cochlear has been working to offer the technology to Android smartphone users via the Nucleus Smart App.

As part of the Nucleus Smart App release, Cochlear has also added a new control feature called ForwardFocus to the Nucleus Smart App. This user-activated control feature allows users to better control their listening environment by reducing the noise level coming from behind them.

For the first time, the Nucleus 7 Sound Processor is now backward compatible with the Nucleus 24 Series Implant, an earlier generation implant. This means a new group of existing recipients will now be able to choose a Nucleus 7 Sound Processor.

The Nucleus 7 Sound Processor for Nucleus 24 Series Implant recipients, Android compatibility with the Nucleus Smart App and ForwardFocus have regulatory approval in many markets including Australia, the US and Europe. This follows the initial release of the Nucleus 7 Sound Processor in 2017 for recipients with Nucleus CI24RE, CI500 and Profile Series implants.
