Companies House boosts service quality for millions of customers with smarter storage

Companies House has enriched the customer experience and reduced costs

by implementing a next-generation storage solution selected in partnership with Computacenter.

The solution will help to increase user and customer satisfaction by enabling the organisation to deliver a faster, more seamless experience to around 1,000 employees and millions of customers.

'Our two key business goals are to become completely digital and to deliver excellent customer service. The new storage platform will help us achieve both,' said Simon Goman, Head of Infrastructure for Companies House.

Companies House manages a public registry of more than four million UK businesses. Its services, which include processing electronic company filings and conducting digital searches, receive millions of hits every day.

The Flash storage solution will safeguard productivity and service continuity by maximising the availability and security of data underpinning Companies House's digital services.

The active-active storage system was deployed as part of a datacenter consolidation programme and will enable Companies House to protect up to 10 terabytes of information. 'By consolidating its storage estate, Companies House has reduced its IT footprint, lowering management and support costs,' said Goman.

The NetApp AFF A300 Flash Storage System with OnCommand Insight Management was selected following an impartial assessment of different vendor solutions conducted by Computacenter.

'We reviewed Companies House's technical requirements and existing infrastructure before conducting a thorough market evaluation,' said Bill McGloin, CTO Platform & Hybrid IT Services for Computacenter 'The high-performance NetApp solution will scale to meet the growing data volumes being generated through digitalisation and provide greater resiliency.'

More than 99% of Companies House searches are now digital, and in excess of 85% of company filings are electronic. The organisation plans to have a fully digital operation with services that are accessible and simple for customers to use.

Computacenter provides Companies House with infrastructure support services and has worked on numerous projects. 'Computacenter's consultants have a thorough understanding of both Companies House's goals and IT infrastructure. They worked closely with the organisation to ensure it achieved the best possible outcome,' said Goman.
