Mercedes-Benz AG on Wednesday said it has strengthened its strategic partnership with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. in the field of battery technology to accelerate its transformation toward carbon-neutrality.

"The agreement covers the full range of battery technologies, from cells across modules for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars to entire battery systems for Mercedes-Benz Vans," the Daimler AG-owned car maker said.

The two companies have already started working on future battery generations that will be introduced in a number of vehicles in the next few years, according to Mercedes-Benz.

Contemporary Amperex Technology is a Chinese battery manufacturer and technology company specialized in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems, as well as battery-management systems.
