YARDLEY, Pa. (AP) _ Crown Holdings Inc. (CCK) on Monday reported first-quarter earnings of $88 million.

On a per-share basis, the Yardley, Pennsylvania-based company said it had net income of 65 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $1.13 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 93 cents per share.

The packaging company posted revenue of $2.76 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.75 billion.

Crown shares have fallen 16% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $61.28, an increase of almost 9% in the last 12 months.
