Following a difficult Friday for air travel along the East Coast, where Delta cancelled nearly 150 Mainline and Delta Connection flights, the airline has started to recover, with only ten cancelled flights as of Saturday morning.

Friday's weather-related challenges, which stretched from Boston to South Florida, have been largely alleviated, while some residual logistical challenges are being addressed by teams in Delta's teams in the Operations and Customer Center (OCC).

Teams, such as Meteorology, Strategic Planning, Dispatch, Maintenance and more are working together with others in the OCC to ensure an expedient return to normal flight operations for Delta's customers heading into the Easter holiday. Tactical adjustments to Saturday's flight schedule may still be necessary as the airline's recovery continues.

Update April 19, 4:30 p.m. ET

Nearly 100 Delta Connection flights have been cancelled as thunderstorms continue to impact much of the east coast - especially at Boston Logan International airport, where Delta has a significant presence. Storms across the Southeast have also impacted much of Florida with extended Air Traffic Control delays and a limited number of diversions and cancellations.

Delta's team of meteorologists continues to monitor and update forecasts as the storm progresses. Other teams in the Operations and Customer Center may make further adjustments to flight schedules as operational and weather conditions dictate.

A weather waiver remains in place for ten cities in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast today for customers to make a one-time change to their travel itinerary without incurring a fee.

Update April 17, 2:00 p.m. ET

Delta has proactively issued a weather waiver< /a> for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast ahead of widespread scattered thunderstorms forecasted in the region Friday.

The airline's Meteorology teams continue to track a frontal system moving east from the Central Plains. The expansive system is expected to bring scattered thunderstorms to the eastern part of the country throughout the day on Friday before pushing off coast in time for the Easter holiday.

The waiver  allows customers with travel booked from any of the ten cities listed below on April 19 to make a one-time change to their travel itinerary without incurring a fee, including:

  • Baltimore, MD (BWI)
  • Boston, MA (BOS)
  • New York-Kennedy, NY (JFK)
  • New York-La Guardia, NY (LGA)
  • Newark, NJ (EWR)
  • Newburgh, NY (SWF)
  • Philadelphia, PA (PHL)
  • Washington DC - Dulles (IAD)
  • Washington DC - Reagan (DCA)
  • White Plains, NY (HPN)
