Deutsche Boerse AG said Monday that the Frankfurt Stock Exchange has appointed Matthias Zieschang as chairman of the exchange council.

The German stock exchange operator said Mr. Zieschang succeeds Michael Klaus, who resigned at the end of March. The exchange council's new deputy chairwoman is Carola von Schmettow, chief executive of HSBC Germany, the company said.

Deutsche Boerse said Mr. Zieschang, who has been a member of the council since 2012 and its deputy chairman since 2014, is currently employed as a board member at Fraport AG, the company that manages Frankfurt airport.

The exchange council of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange has 18 members and appoints and monitors stock exchange management, and issues regulations and terms and conditions for exchange transaction, according to Deutsche Boerse.
