At the age of 18, DTE Energy employee Brian Evans enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves. His service locations were local to Michigan and included Bridge Company A in Battle Creek and 1st Battalion 24th Marines in Selfridge. In total, Evans served our country for 21 years.

'My time in service was unique because I was actively serving one weekend a month in the reserves and working in a corporate environment,' said Evans. While he moved back and forth from serving in the reserves, Evans recognized more veterans around him in the workplace.

'It's nice to see the people you are with on a daily basis and realize many of them are also veterans. You can connect on a different professional level,' said Evans. I was at DTE's Fermi plant for four years as a supervisor. A lot of the guys who reported to me were veterans. It's nice to be comfortable enough to share good ol' war stories with my colleagues.'

This year we commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I and the 100th Veterans Day celebration. 'Veterans Day is not only a way for us to remember those who died in service to our country, but also to recognize those who continue to serve today,' said Evans. 'To those family, friends and war heroes who lost their lives or lost someone special, every day is Veterans Day.'

In 2016 DTE Energy was one of six companies recognized as a gold-level Veteran-Friendly Employer by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA). Being recognized at the gold-level means that we retain more than 75 percent of veteran hires within a 12-month period and implement internal veteran support networks.

DTE encourages veterans to apply for the wide variety of positions open at the company. Veterans can apply at dteenergy.jobs. The website provides Military Occupational Codes and translates the codes to positions open at DTE.
