Eastman Chemical : 2018, Oct 09 - Cedroz from Eastman selected as Agrow Awards 2018 finalist

Kingsport, Tenn., USA - October 9, 2018 - Eastman is pleased to announce that its new crop protection innovation, Cedroz, has been selected as a finalist in the Agrow Awards 2018, within the category 'Best New Biological Product'.

Cedroz is an innovative, nature-identical product, formulated and patented by Eden Research plc and developed by Eastman and Eden as a post-planting nematicidal solution to the problem of root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) in Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae crops. Cedroz is a water-based formulation of the terpenes thymol and geraniol, encapsulated in a natural microencapsulation system.

Eastman has tested the product extensively, under field conditions, where its efficacy has been confirmed in 51 greenhouse and field trials in tomatoes, melons and cucumbers in Italy, Portugal, Spain and Greece. Eastman has been compiling registration data for product approvals worldwide since 2016, and separate dossiers for both thymol and geraniol have already been submitted and granted authorization in Europe by Eden Research. The first approval for Cedroz will be in Europe in 2019 or 2020, followed by the US and Mexico.

The registration files are under evaluation, and it is expected that Cedroz will have a zero-day pre-harvest interval, thereby allowing applications right up to harvest, if desired. The product offers farmers ease of use, since it is applied using the existing irrigation system. The two multi-site active ingredients not only work synergistically, thereby maximising efficacy on the target pest, but also offer a robust anti-resistance strategy. As no resistance is foreseen, effective repeated use is possible.
