KINGSPORT, Tenn., February 20, 2019 - Eastman is pleased to announce that it has received authorization from the Regulatory Affairs Directorate in Malta for Cedroz, a crop protection innovation from Eastman. Cedroz is a nature-identical product, formulated and patented by Eden Research plc and developed by Eastman and Eden as a post-planting nematicidal solution to the problem of root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) in Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae crops.

Malta is acting as the zonal rapporteur Member State for the Southern EU agricultural zone and on behalf of a number of EU countries for indoor uses. This represents the successful completion of the first stage in the authorization process in the EU.

ollowing the authorization by Malta, the concerned Member States ('cMS') are allocated time to grant authorisation for the sale and use of Cedroz within their jurisdictions. Once ratified by each cMS, the approvals will cover Spain and Italy, for outdoor uses and, in addition to these Member States, the approvals will also cover France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom for professional greenhouse uses.

In addition to these important new territories, Malta has authorized the use of Cedroz on a wide range of crops, including cucumbers, courgettes, melons, aubergine, peppers, tomatoes and strawberries. Nematodes can cause severe damage to crops globally for both open field and greenhouse growers resulting in yield losses and driving up costs.

'This authorization by Malta is a great achievement for the commercial development of Cedroz,' said Guy Van Den Bossche, General Manager, Crop Protection at Eastman. 'We gained strong interest in the product from farmers, following successful trials, and are confident Cedroz will now prove itself in field and greenhouse both as a standalone solution to the problem of root-knot nematodes and as part of integrated pest management programs for the approved geographies and crops.'

Crop Protection is part of Eastman's Additives and Functional Products business segment.

'Following Eden's initial investment in the formulation of this important product, Eastman has invested further significant resource over the past three years in the further development of Cedroz, and it is pleasing to see our collective efforts coming to fruition,' said Sean Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Eden.
