Electronic Arts Inc. said Friday it would expand the online tournaments it sponsors for its FIFA 2020 soccer video game.

EA's Summer Cup series will include six online regional tournaments, featuring competitors in Europa, Asia, South America, Oceania, North America and the Middle East and Africa, the Redwood, Calif.-based company said. The tournaments will have a total prize pool of $228,000.

Other FIFA video-game tournaments that included plans for in-person events have been canceled, EA said.

Year-over-year viewership growth of EA's soccer video-game competitions was 260% in May, the company said.
